About me

My name is Sarah E. White. I started First Person Productions to help people remember, write, and share the stories of their lives.

People who use my services recognize that family stories disappear if not preserved. Turning their memories into memoirs gives them a chance to communicate with generations not yet born.

This is my story:

I was born into a writing family. My freelancing father counseled me on my writing ambitions from the age of seven, while my editor mother marked up every letter I mailed home from camp through college. I graduated from Indiana University in 1980 with a Journalism degree and moved to Madison, Wisconsin, my home ever since.

My professional path:

  • In the 1980s and 1990s I directed my own marketing communication firm.
  • I’ve written several mass-market books for business managers, including the Complete Idiot’s Guide to Marketing.
  • I’ve been a freelance writer since 1998, producing marketing communications, how-to advice, and training courses.

However, I began to feel my work was too much about the wallet, too little about the heart.

  • In 2001 I discovered the field of personal history.
  • In 2002 I joined the Association of Personal Historians. and began training in the skills required to work with others’ memories.
  •  In 2006 launched First Person Productions. See Products for samples of my projects.
  • I currently serve as the Association of Personal Historians’ president (2012-2015).

Clients of all sorts find me reliable, easy to work with, and good at estimating and delivering on time.

My work has been published online and in print–and yours can be too. Writing about your life, either for family and friends or for publication, can be a great satisfaction.

Have I piqued your interest in writing your memoir? Let’s talk!
